CLOSING THE SEASON A meeting of the Alanawatu Cricket Association management committee was held last evening, Air. A. AI. Onglcy presiding. The Girl Guides’ Association wrote thanking the association for loan of kitchen at the Sportsground. It was decided to devote 10s 6d to the Alanawatu Swimming Centre towards the expenses of sending Len Smith, breaststroke swimming champion, to tho British Empire Games. The town clerk advised that the council had decided to authorise the curator to procure Longburn soil for the purpose of top dressing three wickets at the Sportsground at an approximate cost of £25. The secretary reported that he bad supplied the New Zealand Council with full score sheets of all inter'association matches played by manawutu representatives during the past season. The names of three defaulting members of the United Cricket Club were placed on the “black” list of the association. The secretary reported a credit- at tho bank of £BS 12s Gd with accounts outstanding of about £l3 to bo paid. There was also about £9 ground fees to come in. At tho conclusion the association should have a surplus ot about £GO income over expenditure. Air. Alair was granted an honorarium of sgns. for his services during the year, and an honorarium of 7gns. was voted the secretary (Air. R. Brace). The chairman said it looked as if the association would have to consider sending a team after the Hawke Cup next season. The past season had been a very successful one with more teams and more outside games than had been played before. A great deal of Inc success of the season had to be placed at the feet of! the secretary. Alcmbcrs concurred.
