1 HOROEKA. At the monthly meeting of tho Horoeka AVJ. there was a good attendance over which Airs. Lunt presided. The president, in a happy speech, presented the points prizes for the year. Aliss Thomas was first and Airs. Urquhart second. The roll-call was “AVhere I should like to go for a holiday and why.” Several members wished to travel abroad. The competition was for a child’s knitted garment. Airs. Lunt, Airs. T. AVhitta and Aliss Thomas gained equal points for first aud Airs. Clemens and Aliss Bowie tied for second. These garments arc to be given to needy cases and a large parcel of beautiful garments was handed in. The monthly recipe was given by Airs. Urquhart. An amusing word competition was arranged by Aliss N. AVhitta. Tho hostesses were Alrs. Toxward, Airs. A. Gillam and Aliss Thomas. Afternoon tea. and the National Anthem concluded the afternoon. CARNARVON. Alcsdamcs P. T. Scott and AV. Sandercock attended as delegates at the council meeting of the North AA’cllington Federation held at Palmerston North on Thursday last. A very successful and pleasant day was spent and the knowledge gained will prove very beneficial to all members connected with any institutes. The members of the drama circle are putting in a large amount of practice busily rehearsing two playettes which are shortly to Do staged, and all arrangements arc well in hand and everything working very satisfactorily for a successful entertainment at a later date. FONTON. Airs. E. Titcombc (president) presided over the monthly meeting of the Foxtou AV.I., the attendance being large despite the adverse weather and also the fact that members of the Dramatic Circle and others were attending the federation celebrations in Palmerston North. Airs. Titcombc was unanimously elected delegate to attend the annual general meeting. The competition for the best pot of marmalade was won by Airs. Procter, Airs. Shortt being placed second and Airs. Ross third. The competition for the best thrift article costing not more than one shilling, was won by Airs. Bligh, whose entry was a beautiful little set (shirt and pants) for small boy. Airs. AlcPhail and Airs. Tremaine tied for second place, the former with a pair of motor tube braces, and the latter vith a pair of cosy slippers. A guessing competition held during the afternoon was won by Aliss King, who received as a prize a most artistic glove box. An amusing game was indulged in, guess ing of jumbled animals names.” Mrs. Anderson and ALiss AlcEwen tied, Alias AlcEwcn winning Ike draw, the prize being a dainty cup, saucer and plate. A most interesting demonstration on working a sea grass stool was given by ■Airs. Brooks, and a bring and buy stad in the charge of Alcsdamcs AlcEwen, Shortt and Richardson, proved a real success. During the afternoon Mrs. Pikhnloff sang a Russian hymn very sweetly, while Airs. Riches’ rendering of ‘‘Aiv Ain Folk” was much enjoyed. The hostesses for the afternoon were Alcsdamcs Hunt, Edwards, Howell. Moore, Signal, Graham and Misses AVanklyn, Nye and Spoil's, who provided a delicious afternoon tea. Community singing was also indulged in, Airs. AL Ross presiding at the piano. The. singing of the National Anthem brought a very successful and enjoyable afternoon to a close.
