At 4 o ’clock yesterday morning the school at Ward (Marlborough), accommodating about 70 pupils, was entirely destroyed by fire. The second term commenced on Monday and it is believed the outbreak was caused by a faulty chimney. Nothing was saved. A gramophone and piano, owned by the School Committee, were insured for £77. The committee has applied to Wellington for desks and intends to set up temporary class rooms pending the reconstruction of the building.
David William Boniface and Alexander Boniface, two brothers riding a motor-cycle at Grovetown (Marlborough) come into a head-on collision with a dray yesterday. Both sustained broken legs. The director of the Palmerston North Technical School (Mr. G. G. Hancox) has .been authorised by the Technical Committee to make arrangements for the tuition of unemployed girls whose applications were genuine.
