Bunnythorpe
Last Wednesday evening- a successful euchre and dance was held :n the hall. The prize-winners for the euchre were Mrs. Godfrey and Mx. Gee; consolation prizes went to Mrs. Carson and Mr. Petersen. Miss X. Beagley won the cake donated by Mrs. Greig. Dancing was enjoyed until & late hour, supper being provided by the Ladies’ Guild, The proceeds are to go to St. Barnabas Church funds. The new bridge over the Mangaono stream is now under construction, light traffic being diverted over a temporary bridge on the east side of the highway, while heavy traffic must detour via James’ line. , ~ ~ , „„ Bunnythorpe third grade football team met Ashhurst thirds on the local recreation ground on Saturday. Ihe game resulted in a win for the homo team, the scores being Bunnythorpe i), Ashhurst ni The fortnightly meeting of the Bunnythorpe Debating Society was held on Friday evening. By courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Cameron the meeting was held at their residence. Mr. A. K. McKenzie, vice-president, presided over an excellent attendance. The subject for debate, Is Man or Machinery in the Saddle, Pioved most Interesting, Sir. K. Cameron, Ml. J. Smith and Miss K. Coomber supporting the claim of man’s control, while Mr. Leslie Weston-Webb, Mr. J. Jarre It and Mr. A. Hiil upheld the contention that machinery had become the master and man the slave. By populat vote the former team were declared the wuineis. Mr. A. I<\ McKenzie, in summing up. Rave a very helpful criticism and useful hints for the guidance of the junior members. An apology for absence was Received from Mr. O. Jackson (president) and Mrs. Jackson. It was decided to send a team to Feilding in answer to a challenge from that club when the subject will be “Should Capital P’’ lll ® l ' l ™: Be Abolished?’’ Mr. Tulloch, Mr. Smith and Mr. McKenzie were chosen to icpresent Bunnythorpe. Mrs. A. Mitchell and Master Lou Mitchell have returned from Wairoa, where they, have been spending a few weeko with'Mrs. Kent. . ... Mr. and Mrs. L. Butler are visiting his parents in Putaruru, where they intend staying for- a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Pascoe arc at present holidaying in Tauranga. .Mr. A.. Guy, of the Glaxo staff, is on annual leave. , . ... Hiss S. K. Oliver, who has been visiting: Mrs. P. Tulloch, returned to raumarunui by Saturday nights express.
