Awarded Seout V.C.
.. INVALID BOY’S PLUCK Courage that has given a wonderful stimulus to scouting throughout the country was recognised in England recently, when the '' V.C. ” of the scouting niovoment—the Jack Cornwall Medal—was presented to Cyril Streeter, aged 13, a member of the Ist. Warlingliam Troop. Streeter is the first Surrey Scout to receive the medal. Major Browell, the Surrey Commissioner, made the presentation on behalf of Lord Badon-Powell. Streeter earned the medal for endurance and courage through great physical suffering over a long period. Prior to becoming a scout be lay for six years on his back with a diseased hip. He went to camp with the Warlingham Troop last year, when he made a brave effort to join the boys in their games. On one occasion, after discarding his crutches in a tent, the boy kicked a football about. Not long afterwards lie had to return to the Alton Cripples’ Home, and his hip had to be broken again and re-set. He went through the operation uncomplainingly, his only concern, being that his parents should not know of his misfortune.
