MAIN RAILWAY LINE TO LITTLE FIVER. Water and mud covering the railway line between Christchurch and Little River as a result of the heavy rains during the week-end. Trains were unable to reach Little River owing to many washouts on the line.
A SEA OF MUD.- Scene of devastation in the backyard of one of the houses in Little River township. The flood flowed over-this land and carried everything before it. When the floods had receded slightly, silt, feet deep in places, covered the land.
