Bradman Declares With 368 For Five

LONDON, May 7. The second day’s play in the cricket match, Australia v. Leicestershire, placed the Australians in a highly favourable position. Their innings, in reply to Leicestershire’s 152, was declared closed when 3(38 runs had been scored for the loss of five wickets, and at the end of the day the county in their second innings hat. made 35 runs for the loss of one wicket, leaving' them with 182 to make to save defeat by an innings. After Bradman had been dismissed for 05, Kippax and McCabe did most of the scoring for Australia, McCabe making a century without losing his wicket.

With Kippax mid Barling together the scoring quietened. Geary was clearly worrying Darling. Kippax took 75 minutes to make 20 runs. Darling was speedier, but less safe. He was brilliantly caught by the wicketkeeper wide on the leg side. Three thousand were present after lunch. They saw McCabe, who was immediately aggressive, have a life when Hazcl-Rigg in the slips failed to hold the ball. Kippax at last opened out and readied 50 in 140 minutes. McCabe’s 50 took 80 minutes.

Kippax Jiad another life at 70, Geary dropping the ball at forward short leg. Although Kippax was again mis-hitting badly, the 100 for the partnership was raised in 90 minutes. Kippax, trying to pull Shipman, was easily caught at square leg. Ho batted for 225 minutes and secured eight 4’s in an unimpressive innings. McCabe added only four in 25 minutes and when 90 turned Astill to fine leg straight into .Smith’s hands. The catch was dropped. Barnett punished the bowling on its merits, but McCabe was quiet, reaching the century after 100 minutes. Bradman declared the innings closed at 5.30. McCabe hit twelve 4’s. Barnett socred a bright 30 in 35 minutes. The innings lasted 335 minutes. In the 45 minutes of remaining play Leicester scored 35 runs for the loss of Shipman’s wicket. Two cracking fours by Dawson in one over from Darling constituted the only bright patch. Ebcling worked hard without creating an impression. Scores are: —

Larwood’s Foot Slightly Swollen LONDON, May 7. After bowling a few overs against Somerset to-day Larwood quitted the field with his left foot slightly . swollen. The swelling is under the foot, not the big toe. Larwood believes his strained foot is apparently not connected with the former trouble. Two Down for Eighty BAIN DELAYS PLAY Deceived Wednesday, 1.30 a.m. LONDON, May 8. Tor the resumption of the cricket match between Australia and Leicestershire, the wicket was good, hut the weather was showery and the start of play was delayed. At the luncheon adjournment Leicester had lost two wickets for 80. When. Armstrong and Dawson resumed in a gloomy drizzle, Fleet-wood-Sniith’s length was erratic, and he sent down some over-pitch-ed halls. Dawson beautifully cover-drove him to the boundary, which was the only noteworthy stroke thus far. In the next over, from O’Beilly, Armstrong, who is an habitual legbefore victim, got in front to one which slipped through quickly.
