Police Constable is Composer of Music
COMES PROM LOCAL FAMILY
Palmerston North can now lay claim to a composer of music. To Awamutu, also, is proud of its police representative, Constable A. R. Rimmer, who is the gentleman referred to. His waltz composition was featured by the 2YA Concert Orchestra on Monday evening and met with a cordial reception. Constable Rimmer comes of a musical family well known in Palmerston North and throughout the Manawatu district. When he was a mere boy the family were keen to have him taught to play the piano, but like most boys he wanted to play outside the home and stubbornly refused to take lessons. At the age of 12, however, the urge to become a musician came of its own accord, and with the aid of a church hymn-book he taught himself the rudiments nnd began to learn music in earnest. His one ambition was to become a composer, and to date he has quite a large number of worthy compositions to his credit. Of ‘‘Leisure Moments,” Mr. Leon dc Manny (of AVellington) says: ‘‘The music is completely original, and though quite simple, lias a beautiful melody.”
