Dr. Cyril King, who was called to Christchurch on account of the death of his youngest brother, Dr. Edward King, is returning to Palmerston North to-day. The King and Queen will visit Glasgow at the end of September for the launching of the new giant Cunarder. —British Oflicial Wireless.
A Perth message says that Lord Huntingfield, Governor-Designate of Victoria, accompanied by Lady Huntingficld and their four children, arrived there by the Muloja yesterday. The Duke of Connaught has returned to London from the .South of Prance, where he spent the winter months, states a- British Official Wireless message.
Hotel Imperial guests include Mr. and Mrs. J. Dunne, Mr. E. ltecves, Mr. VV. J. Wilson, Mrs. M. Browne, Mr. H. Reason, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Thomson (all of Wellington), and Mr. W. I’iue (Hawera). Members present at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association stood in silence last evening as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr. B. Beed, formerly a member of that body.
Leave of absence, while making a trip to .Samoa, was granted Mr. W. B. iloperoft, of Aokautere, and representative for the Pitzhcrbert riding, at yesterday’s meeting of the Ivairanga County Council. Mr. Iloperoft proposes leaving New Zealand towards the end of the month.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Kairange County Council a motion of sympathy was extended to Mr. Jos. Batehela r, a member of the council and a past chairman, 'who recently underwent an operation. The hope was expressed that Mr. Batchelor would make a speedy recovery. A letter of sympathy to Mr. G. Walker, sexton at the Kelvin Grove cemetery, who is at present indisposed, is to be forwarded from the Palmerston North branch of the B.S.A. This was passed at the annual meeting last evening when Mr. Walker was praised for his care of soldiers' graves at the cemetery.
A message of congratulation from the Palmerston North branch of the B.S.A. is to be forwarded to the Hon. Mr. .Justice Fair on his appointment to the Supreme Court Bench. This was decided at the annual meeting last evening when the president (Mr. B. J. Jacobs) pointed out that Messrs D. Smith and A. Pair, both of whom had taken a keen interest in B.S.A. work, had been appointed to the Bench.
