At the quarterly meeting of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, the Rev. A. N. Scotter stated that he could report that the church buildings and parsonage had not suffered damage during the recent earthquake. .Since the disturbance he had gladly accepted an offer from Mr. E. Dymoek, who was general foreman of work in toe erection, to inspect the building. The report showed that there was no suspicion of damage, the building being as strong and as trustworthy as on the day it was built. The chairman said consideration of the reports, assured him that the church was built on the right lines, strong and in every way reliable. The fascination of Air. George Bernard Shaw was put to the test at a meeting held in the city last evening—and it failed. With one eye on the clock, in anticipation of the radio broadcast at 10 o’clock some members of the Manawatu Hockey Association s executive became uneasy as it was realised that the business of the meeting would not. be nearly concluded by that time. One member, bolder than the others, uw.vcd for half-an-h our’s adjournment but met with strong opposition. - “I object—we will bo here all night,” declared another and a chorus of approval forced the Shavian supporter into silence.
