Star's Elopement in An Autogyro Machine
STRANGE MACHINE’S FIRST APPEARANCE FOR BRITISH The autogyro, that strange beetle-like flying machine, in which the film star makes her “romantic last minute elopement" with her aristocratic lover, is the first, of its kind to appear in a British picture, in “His Lordship,” at the Palace on Saturday with “Puppets of Fate.” The actual machine used was the first made in this country and cost £IO,OOO to construct. Tho distinctive feature of this machine is its horizontal propeller —three Iff foot blades radiating from above the cockpit. These are apt to be dangerous when the machine is on the ground as they whirl round at a height of about six feet, and might easily decapitate a tall man whose neck happened to be in the way. In the air, however, they make for additional safety, as well as enabling the machine to rise almost vertically from the ground, with very little take-off. This machine is now used by the traffic authorities to assist in regulating chowds and traffic at race meetings and other events, and caused great interest at, the Derby. The elopement by air is but one of the many exciting episodes in the new time musical film “His Lordship.” One of Universal’s most important cast assignments in three years goes to John Barrymore, who will play the title role in Elmer Rice’s screen translation of his own stago hit, “Counscllor-at-Law” Bebe Daniels, Doris Kenyon, Onslow Stevens and Thelma Todd will appear in support.
