“Puppets of Fate ”is Good Entertainment
FINE BRITISH DRAMA HEADS COMING PALACE PROGRAMME Further proof of the maimer in whicli British film producers are taking their opportunities of malting fine reputations as well as profits in the entertainment world, is provided hy “Puppets of Fate,” a production for United Artists by the new Twickenham Studios, Ltd., in London, which will start on Saturday at the Palace theatre with “His Lordship.” The picture is one of those which achieve success without obviously striving to do so, and without using methods which stretch the credulity of audiences and consequently defeat their own ends. It is good entertainment of the popular type. Alarming adventures, everincreasing mystery, deeds of daring which are not, however, too far-fetched,, romance, comedy and suspense, are some of the elements in this sensational screen-thriller, which has been accorded high praise by English reviewers. In fact, the film may bo said to blend expertly all those elements of entertainment which are successful individually but which are many times more successful when they are combined. The story is a highly ingenious one, and concerns tho machinations of a rascally medico, Dr. Munro, who murders a fellow-adventurer when ho finds that tho latter is bent on vengeance. TlieS tho doctor hides the body in the debris of a train wreck; and from this situation develops a film which is certain to hold tho interest. The leading roles are taken by Godfrey Tearle, Russel Thorndike, Fred Groves and Osla Bevan.
