MANAWATU ASSOCIATION MEETING
Mr A. M. Ongloy presided at . the meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Cricket Association last evening. Also present were Messrs E. J. Worry, J. Gavey, W. E. Norris, R, S. Warwick, C. Sigley, G. Greggs, N. Galliehan and R. Brace (secretary). An apology for absence was forwarded by Mr W. 11. Wilson. ‘Mr A. E. Mausford forwarded a donation of £2 2s, along with thanks for the honour accorded him in election to the presidency. Mr Mausford is to be thanked for his donation.
The llorowhenua Association advised that it had appointed Mr N. Gallichan as its delegate. The hope was expressed that a return match could be arranged dor later in the season. The secretary reported that ho had written the llorowhenua Association thanking them for hospitality shown the Manawatu team that visited Levin on Labour Day. . The Foxton Association advised that it had appointed Mr W. E. Norris as its delegate. For the return match against Palmerston North Wednesday reps., Oroua Downs was suggested as the venue.
Writing on the matter of the practice wicket, the Y.M.C.A. club considered the City Council's charge of £2 2s excessive. The club suggested that the Council be asked to reduce the cost to £1 Is per club. The secretary reported that Combined Services club considered it would be impossible to meet the fee and if a reduction were not possible, the Association should come to the assistance of clubs.
Mr Norris stated that Palmerston club desired a practice wicket. The secretary was instructed to write Old Boys’ and United clubs again ir. order to finalise matters while it was also decided to write the City Council in an endeavour to get the cost of -junior wickets on the outer area reduced to £1 Is.
South Auckland Association forwarded a suggestion that there should be an annual match between reps oi ■the four major Associations and the representatives of the minor associations. Mr Ongloy doubted if the minor associations could assemble a representative side for such a match. So long as the major associations called on Lie minor associations for Plunket Shield Games, there was the opportunity for outstanding players to get into big cricket.
Advice was received from the City Council that at its next meeting, there would be a deputation regarding Sunday cricket. The Association was offered tho opportunity to present its views as well. The chairman and secretary were appointed to attend. A copy of tho proposed new set of rules embodying those governing the Hawke Cup, was received from the New Zealand Council as well as copies of resolutions to eb presented at the annual conference.
The meeting held over the question of finalising a date for the match with Southern Hawkes Bay which is to be played .this year at Dannevirke.
