From Our Own Correspondent. Cricket Season Opens. Saturday afternoon marked the opening of the Southern Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association’s competition matches foi the Hunter shield, play being marred by rain which fell at intervals from three o'clock onwards. On the local recreatio ground, Woodville met Dannevirke and when stumps were drawn each side had completed one innings, Dannevirke having a substantial lead of h runs. Batting first Woodville were dismissed foi reruns, of which P. Brandon scored 3b by attractive cricket. J. i ulton (U) ’was the only other batsman to reach double figures/ Pickard (41) and Burtensliaw (47) proved hard to dispose of when Dannevirke went to the wickets, an , assisted by Brogan (17) and Mclntosh (13), the whole side ran up lpl iuns oe fore being dismissed.
