Shadow of Political Gunman Over Belfast
FARMERS SENDING FOR RIFLES AND REVOLVERS

The Daily Express says: “The shadow of the political gunman is over Belfast; there is a Chicago tang about the recent outrages and the purpose is to make political trouble. Tho proscribed Irish Republican Army, 38 of whose members have been arrested during the last three weeks, is setting about its business in grim earnet.- “ Ulster is full of armament, as farmers arc sending for revolvers and rifles on the plea that “the Papists are arming, so we must have an armoury of our own.” Lots of these arms, which date back to 191 d, havo passed to the Republican Army. “The authorities have accepted the challenge, and they mean to keep the warfare underground. If the special Act proves insufficient to stop gunrule, then the Ulster Government will take further powers.” Blue Shirts Bludgeoned ARMED AND MASKED MEN LONDON, Oct. 29. Armed men from a motor-car entered the home of a Blue Shirt, Denis O’Leary, at Baudon before dawn, and shot him in tho leg after battering idown the door. O’Leary’s father, who is chairman of the local creamery, was knocked unconscious with a stick. The intruders, brandishing revolvers, dragged the son outdoors, assaulted and shot him, and decamped. He crawled inside when he recovered consciousness and tho father struggled to the Civic Guard station bleeding from the head. Armed and masked men an hour later raided the bungalow of a Blue Shirt, Hugh O’Reilly, at Innishanuon, dragged him out and beat him scveicly about the body and head, necessitating his being taken to hospital.
