“A Country Girl”
To-night marks the opening performance of this popular musical play at, the Opera House. The local amateurs have been practising assiduously for the past six weeks to provide the public with, an entertainment, which has been described as too good to miss. The story concerns love, politics and romance, and the scenery, which has been specially painted for the occasion, shows a delightful picture of English rural life in the first act, and a. view of the interior of the Ministry of Fine Arts, where Lord An Chester (Mr Clarence Rabone) gives a ball, in Act IT. Many amateurs noted for artistic performances of a particularly high standard, are taking part. Miss Naomi Whalley appears as Nan; Mrs Brian Simpson is the Princess of Bkong; Miss Vonne Lucena is Marjorie, a country girl; and Miss Edna Boon plays Sophie. Miss Margaret Guy is the dignified Mrs St. Quinton. Raikes, and Mrs Cameron has the part of the nurse. Mr Harry Palmer makes his iirst appearance as comedy lead (Barry), and Mr Bert Eising displays a natural gift for stage work as Sir Joseph Verity. Mr E. G. Seeker plays the part of Geoffrey ChaUoncr, and Mr Fred Cousins will again be seen as the Rajah of Bhong. The part of “Graufer” Mummery is in the hands of Mr •J. M. Pearson and Rube Fairway is played by Mr Vic Contour. Mrs J. W. Jones is Lord Grassmcvc and Mf Aldersley plays Lord Vicat. A thoroughly good performance can bo confidently anticipated, and as prices arc kept at the popular .level, it is expected that this production will eclipse all previous efforts of this progressive society.
