“Hard-up” Dance at Milson

The "hard-up" social and dance organised by the Milson Women’s Institute and held in tho Milson Hall on Wednesday was well attended and provided excellent entertainment for patrons. The costumes created great merriment and the judges were, faced with a difficult task, the prizes being eventually awarded to Mrs Prentice andM.r Gould. Interspersed with old-time dances were a number of items which were enthusiastically received. The items woro ‘‘When the Toys .Awake, a children's play in three acts, which was enjoyed by young and old; song, Mrs Hutchison; recitation, Monty Richmond; song, Master Athol Gilbert; vocal duet. Miss June McKenzie and Master Athol Gilbert; Maori haka, Mr Murray Heke. A most amusing oneact comedy, "Snowed Up with a Duchess," was presented by members of the Drama Circle, who were warmly applauded. The cast was as follows: "Tho Duchess" (Miss Robinson): “Madame Value” (Miss Munro); "Mrs Cholmondeley Jones" (Mrs Sinclair); “Mrs Hodge’’ (Mrs King). The lucky Gay Gordons was won by Mrs Bulmer and Mr Thompson, and a lucky spot waltz by Mr and Mrs Jensen. A competition for a box of handkerchiefs was finalised, the winner being MrsW. Gooch (.Linton). Members of tho committee handed round a dainty supper, and dancing continued till a late hour, music being supplied by Mrs Murphy (piano) and Mr H. Carey (accordeou). Mrs King made an efficient M.C.
