Guests at the Hotel Imperial include: Messrs. Eeason and Meyer, both of Wellington. Mr. P. F. O'Connor, of Palmerston North, who has been on a health recruiting trip to Australia, is reported to be ill in Sydney and his condition is causing his friends anxiety. Mrs. O'Connor, who accompanied her husband, is also indisposed.
Mr. Duncan Black, chief postmaster at Gisborne, is to replace Mr. F. W. Furby, who has been transferred to Christchurch, and will replace Mi - . F. J. Shanks, the chief postmaster there. Mr. Shanks has been promoted to second assistant-secretary of the General Post Office.
Previously assistant-secretary of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, Mr. W. A. Sharp, accountant of the Horowhenua Power Board, has been appointed secretary of the Opunake Power Board. He has been on the staff of the Horowlicnua board practically from its inception.
At last evening’s annual dinner of St. Patrick’s Football Club, one of the most enthusiastically honoured toasts was that of Mr. B. Stone, the club's popular secretary. Eulogistic references were made to his excellent services to the players in general, and to his untiring efforts to promote the welfare of the club.
At a meeting of the Mauawatu Pacing Club Mr. E. Wood, of Milson's line, who recently celebrated his eighty-second birthday and who has been connected with the club for the past 50 years, was referred to in complimentary terms by the chairman, Mr. C. Louisson. Mr. Wood, he said, had rendered valuable services and congratulations were extended to him.
Mr. J. A. Nash (Palmerston North) is carrying out the duties of .Senior Eefornr Whip in the House of Representatives. This position was held by Mr. J. Bitchencr prior to his appointment as Minister of Public Works, Mr. Nash being Junior "Whip. Palmerston North’s member has had a long experience as Whip and possesses the popularity essential in those holding this responsible position.
Advice lias been received in Palmerston North that Mr. Thomas Baxter, the representative of the National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales, who is visiting' New Zealand to discuss the position regarding the dairyproduce markets in the United Kingdom, will spend to-morrow in the Manawatu district. He will be accompanied by Mr. W. A. Toms, chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board. Mr. Baxter is at present spending two days in the Taranaki district. On Saturday he will confer with the Dairy Produce Board regarding export restriction proposals.
