Preparing for the Tennis Season

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION AITAIRS, The first meeting of the executive of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association was held last evening, Mr J. T. McDonald presiding. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association advised that applications for tournament dates must be made before 'September 10. • Palmerston North Club made application for January S, 9, 10, and 11, 1934, for their annual tournament, with which would be incorporated the seventh annual tournament of the association.

The secretary (Mr J. H. "White) reported that lie had applied for January 8,9, 10 and 11, 1934, for the annual tournament.

Massey College Club wrote regretting they would not bo ablo to affiliate owing to financial stringencies and lack of lady members. —The chairman pointed out that unless affiliated, members of tho club would not be eligible to compete in tournaments.

Dr. E. C. Barnett wrote expressing pleasure at re-election as a. vice-presi-dent, and adding that lie would do ail ho could to help the association. Eongotea Club advised that it was resigning from the association this season, 0 owing to tho courts at Eongotea not being fit to play on. Messrs McDonald, Worrall and Yates wero elected an inter-club games subcommittee, and. it was decided to call for entries for tho competition, to bo in the hands of tho secretary by October 23. It was decided to meet on the last Monday in each month. It was decided to write the various clubs, drawing attention to tho Queen Carnival and expressing tho hopo that every effort would be made through the association to promote the candidature of the sports queen, Miss Molly Nathan,
