PARENT BODY ADHERES TO ITS DEMANDS REGARDING FEE

Tho Palmerston North band contest committee has now received advice that the committee's ultimatum to tho controlling authorities, that it -would not. conduct tho contest in February next, unless thero was adherence to tho original conditions,'had been accepted. This means that the fixturo is now definitely abandoned, at least so far as this centre is concerned. The New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association mot at Wellington on Saturday' when, according to advico received by Mr P. S. LarComb yesterday from the secretary (Mr J. G. Osborno), it carried unanimously tho following resolution:—

"That the Now Zealand Brass Bands’ Association regrets that tho Palmerston North committee has found it necessary to abandon tho proposal for tho 1934 contest, and that the intimation to that effect as contained -in its letter of September 9 bo accepted.”

It will bo remembered that the Palmerston North band contest committee objected to the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association requiring a contest •fee of £SO and 10 per cent, of tho profits when its president at a meeting in Palmerston North on .Tuno 30 said that the forthcoming contest, would bo run on new lines and only in tho ovent of a reasonable profit would a contest fee be required, and in any case this would not exceed £SO.

Wellington Likely Venue WELLINGTON, Sept, 25. The president of the New Zealand Brass, Bands’ Association, Mr, H, B. .Bennett, in a statement to-day, said thg next contest was now likely to take place at Wellington in February. An application had been received from Wanganui, but he thought the venue would bo Wellington. ,*
