A Most of Golden Daffodils

TECHNICAL SCHOOL CANVASSES CITY WITH FLOWERS

On Saturday Palmerston North was fioodod with flowers on the occasion of tbo annual Daffodil Day of the Technical School. This drive for funds is a feature of the school’s programme, and this year’s effort resulted in the sum of £45 14s being raised. Further sums still to be collected should augment the figure to the vicinity of £SO.

Flowers had arrived in bundles, bundles and baskets from far and near, and the issuing depot at the school, with a breath-taking array of the spring’s loveliest blooms, had the appearance and perfume of an overseas flower market. The blooms, collected by the pupils, had come from such centres as Levin, Bulls and Manakau, as well as a generous city contingent. Public support was generous, and the large band of flower girls, over 100 strong, which invaded the business and residential areas, found a quick sale tor their attractive wares.

A street stall was also conducted, where produce of all descriptions, as well as buttonholes and a copper trail, invited the attention of Saturday shoppers. The staff of the school was all on the job and rendered stalwart service in the matter or assisting and directing the juveniles. A weight-guessing competition conducted resulted in. a “dead heat” finish, no fewer than five people guessing the correct weight of 61bs. 2oz. Ihe successful ones were Miss V, MacMillan, Miss .1. Bowntree, Miss Kelly, Mrs. F. Hardy and Mr. P. S. Larcomb. In addition, there were four others whose hazard was within half an ounce of the correct weight. In the, evening there was a grand finale to the successful day in the form of a dance in the school assembly hail. A most happy time was spent by past, and present pupils and friends, while at a suitable interlude Mr. G. G. Haueox, director, returned hearty thanks to the legion, of workers who had. contributed to the success of the effort.
