MODE TOR LINEN
Linen is certainly the password to the world of chic this summer. Perhaps the uniniated would not always recognise this simple little world in the exquisite fabrics that are being used in the making of the most exclusive suits, the loose coats, and even evening gowns (writes a London correspondent). Many of these linens have a erepy surface, woven in charming pastel colours, and some are shown in a very uneven weave with nobbles on the surface. The new' “string” shade looks particularly attractive in this type of material. The newest linen tweeds are so marvellously light and cool and uncrushablc, and ideal for tho “little suit.” Many of these are flocked in contrasting colours.
Among the lovely creations is a linen with, a decided ridge, which can be arranged diagonally with amazing success. For evening many designers arc using a finely-woven printed linen. The new linens possess the great advantage that they hang extremely well, and therefore are admirable when adapted for skirts that are worn with a contrasting tunic or blouse. Several of the French houses have had the idea of putting a linen skirt with a knitted cardigan, or of having a knitted yoke in a contrasting colour with a linen dress. Every woman will bo wearing a three-quarter o:r fulllength "swagger” coat this season, falling loosely from a deep yoke, and with roomy sleeves. Many of these will be made from crepe lynic, for this can be had in so many attractive shades and weights, and is just what is needed on a holiday or a cruise. Stripes, spots and plaids are all equally welcomed in the new dresses, both for day and evening, and the mode seems to have attained an atmosphere of daintiness that is very pleasant and alluring.
