Tennis in Feilding
ST. BRIBED’S CLUB MEETING. There was a good attendance of members present at the annual meeting of St. Brigid’s Tennis Club, Feilding, on Wednesday evening, when Mr. G. E. Pollock (president) presided. Reviewing the past season's activities, Mr. Pollock said it was very gratifying to find the club in such a healthy position, and the committee were to be congratulated on tho manner in which they had worked for the benefit of the club. The prospects for the coming season seemed particularly bright, the courts being in ideal condition and the membership considerably strengthened.
Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, the Rev. Father R. Hcgarty; president, Mr. G. E. Pollock; vice-presi-dent, Mr. L. Mcßeynolds; lion, secretary, Miss G. Christie; lion, auditor, Mr. D. C. Cullinane; club captain, Mr. J. Simpson; committee, Misses M. Benge, E. Redwood, R. Henaghen, Messrs. P. Delehantv and B. Murphy. It was decided to open the playing season on October S.
ST. PAUL’S CLUB REPORT. The St. Paul's Presbyterian Tennis Club of Feilding, which closed its season with a membership of 70, will hold its annual meeting on Monday next, at which the following annual report will bo presented: —
I "The committee considers that this season has been a particularly successful one, for notwithstanding the difficult times, the club has emerged with a credit balance of £0 5s sd. It is gratifying to note that the good fellowship oxisting amongst players has enabled them to enter wholeheartedly into the spirit of tho game. In accordance with a motion on tho club’s minute book, tho sum of £3O was again repaid to various debenture-holders, and the liability iu respect to tho courts has now been reduced to £4O. During the earlier part of the season, an entertainment committee was set up to raise funds and at the ond of September staged a musical and dramatical entertainment. This proved a great success and thus encouraged the pierrot troupe staged the entertainment at Buntiythorpc, Apiti, Eangiwahia and Marlon, and in each case they were met with an appreciative audience. Total receipts were £24 5s 3d and expenses £lO 9s 9d, leaving a net profit of £.13 15s Gd. The committee thanks sincerely those friends and members who gave of their talent and time in the interests of the club. Tho ladder continues to stimulate much friendly interest amongst players, as also does the ‘buttons’ scheme inaugurated towards the close of the season. Various championships and handicaps were held and resulted as follows: Ladies’ championship singles and handicap, Miss Vera Whisker; men’s championship, Mr. I. C. Bobinson; men’s handicap, Mr. Duncan Smith; ladies’ doubles, Misses Elsie and Vera Whisker;s men’s doubles, not completed; combined doubles, Miss ,T. Watts i and Mr. I. C. Bobinson. Eleven matches j with local and neighbouring town clubs I were played, <St. Paul’s being successful in six. It. is proposed to top-dress the courts this year and they should bo in good playing condition by opening day. The ping pong club formed last winter to keep tennis members interested in the club has again proved popular. In addition a tenikoit set has been purchased, and the club has a membership of 20. The committee has achieved its object of keeping players interested in the Tennis Club. It .is with sincere re-, gret that this Teport records the depar-c ture on transfer from Eeilding of Mr. I. - C. Bobinson. Since the club’s inception he has given it his wholehearted support and was an efficient club captain. The thanks of the club are again duo to Mr. O. Alcfis for his work as auditor, tho church management committee for their encouragement, tho de-benture-holders, and to the Press for publicity given. The continued co-opera tion and support of members will ensure success in the future.”
