Big Scout Rally Next Month
UNIQUE EVENT FOR CITY
Boy Scouts from all over the Manawatu and Southern Hawke’s Bay districts will assemble in Palmerston North on Labour week-end, October 21 to October 23, for a camp and grand rally. This will bo the largest event of its kind ever held in the district, and hundreds of Scouts are expected to attend.
Tho object of the rally is primarily to bring scouting prominently before the public and secondly, to augment the funds of the Scouts’ Association. Through the generosity of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, the halls and grounds have been placed at the disposal of the Scouts on very favourable terms.
Tho troops will assemble on the afternoon of Saturday, October 21, and will march around the city in the evening. A camp fire with community singing is to follow. On the Sunday there will be church parades and another camp fire in the evening. Monday morning will be devoted to scouting games, followed by a grand rally in the afternoon, when the public will be given, an opportunity of seeing practical scout work, such as building a signal tower, dais, flagpole, aerial runaway bridge, woodcraft shelter, camp looms, camp hospital, lariat bridge, rtestie bridge, monkey bridge, and also various demonstrations such as firefighting and rescue, first aid, etc. A shield is presented to the troop making tho best effort in its allotted job.
