REPLY TO SIR H. SAMUEL United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, Aug. 29. The Minister of Commerce (Mr H. 11. Stevens) takos issue with Sir Herbert Samuel in his statement at Calgary that the Imperial Conference agreements had driven the United Kingdom to discourage foreign trade, which was throe times the volume of Imperial trade. Mr Stevens says: “Sir Herbert is mistaken. I see by the British Board of Trade report for the first sis months of 1933 that the total trado with foreign countries was £294,08G/)00 and with Empire countries only £201,572,000. In the same period of 1932 the total trade with foreign countries was £332,747,000 and with the Empire £214,258,000. "British trado with foreign countries was not three times the trade within the Empire before the Imperial Conference.”
