Since their position as champions was assured, Yorkshire have experienced some sot-backs, tho latest of which is defeat by an innings by Sussex. Other features of tho latest scries of county cricket matches include a great score by Dorbyshiro of 538 for three wickets, Lee, Townsend and Smith all making centuries. Other good performances with bat and ball were recorded in the various matches. Haig, Hendren, Brown, Barnett, Parker, Hopwood and Keeton, in addition to tho Dorbyshiro players, all scored centuries, Hopwood also distinguishing himself by taking nine wickets in an innings. Goddard and Brook each proved good bowling ‘ 1 doubles.” Tho results are:— Middlesex v. Surrey.—Middlesex, first innings 247 (Haig 102, Ponder " for 72); second innings 347 (Watkins S 3, Hendren 111, Clover 5 for 72); Surrey, first innings, .8 for 402, declared (Brown .128); second, 4 for 193 (Squires 85, Block 67). Surrey won by six wickets. Yorkshire v. Sussex. —Yorkshire, first innings, 115, second 114 (Pearce 5 for 34); Sussex, first innings, 249 (Cook 67). Sussex won by an innings and 20 runs. Hampshire v. Gloucester.—Hampshiro first innings, 221 (Goddard 6 for 56); second, 93 (Brown 52, Goddard 4 for S); Gloucester, first innings 403 (Barnett 131, Neale 73, Parker 111, Harman 5 for 128). Gloucester won by an innings and 89 runs. Lancashire v. Leicester. —Lancashire, first innings, 334 (Hopwood 118, Lister 95); second, 191; Leicester, first inn ings, 234 (Armstrong 55); second 12& (Hopwood 9 for 33). Lancashire won by 171 runs. Derby v. Northants —Derby, first innings, 3 for 538, declared (Lee 128, Townsend 142, Smith not out. 129, Worthington not out 70); Northants, first innings, 224 (Bakewell 81, Himms 74) and followed on to make 130, Derby won by an innings and 184 runs. Kent v, Notts. —Kent, first innings, 336 (Chalk 78, Voce 5 for 80); second, 7 for 316 declared (Fairservice 80, Valentine not out 83); Notts, first innings, 331 (Freeman 6 for 124); second, two for 208 (Keeton 100). Kent won on tho first innings. Somerset v. Warwick. —Somerset, first innings, 282 (Burrougk 61, Mayer 5 for 51); second, 234; Warwick, first innings, 153 (Wellard 0 for 39); second, 7 for 305 (Kilner 94, Wyatt not out 64). Somerset won on the first innings. Glamorgan v. Worcester.—Glamorgan, first innings, 190 (Brook 5 for 68); second, 205 (Brook 5 for 85); Worcester, 4 for 402 declared (Walters 70, Nicol not out 65). Worcester won by an innings and seven runs. West Indies Draw With Army Team LONDON, Aug. 29. Tho match between the West Indies and the Army was drawn, the scores being: Tho Army 472 for eight wickets, declared, and 149 for five wickets, declared; West Indies 346 (Sealy 106 not out,) and 181 for four wickets (Sealy 62 not out).
