The price of gold before England went olf the gold standard on Seifiember 21s, 1931, was about 84s lOd. Gold at 129 s 4id (as it was on December 3, 1932) per ounce brings the £1 sterling down to about 13s 2d. P.N. WOOL SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE SHARP RISE IN VALUES FOR .SHEEPSKINS. At the monthly sale of wool, sheepshins and hides and tallow held on Wednesday by Abraham and Williams, -id., there was a decided rise in values for sheepskins. An excex>tionaily large catalogue was olfered to a full bench of buyers and competition throughout was very keen. Wool: Finer sorts were more in demand with a rise of Id to 2d per lb., while other sorts were very firm. Sheepskins: Bidding was very ani- . mated. Fine sorts were up Id to 2d per lb., good full-woolled skins up to id per 10., while all other sorts were up Id to Id per lb. Hides: The demand was of the best. Ox hides were iirm, heavy cow depreciated l-8d to |d per lb., medium-weight cow was firm and light cow rose in value up to id per lb. Calfskins dropped in value Id to 2d per lb.
