District Nurse Work in Feilding

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Feilding District Nurse Association was held yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Canon F. Petrie, chairman, presiding. Moving the adoption of She report and balance-sheet, tho chairman said that the report omitted to place on record its thanks to the Tivoli Theatre management and Mr. G. Revere and he hastened to correct ■ this because the association was indebted to Messrs. Groombridge and Revere for their help. Alluding to the drop in the number of sick visits paid by the District Nurse (Sister Smith) Canon Petrio stated that this was in part accounted for by the fact that the Health Department had insisted that the services of; tho nurse had to be paid for. This he considered was responsible for a number of people being unable to avail themselves of the services of Miss Smith. The matter of charging for the nurse's services where recipients" of the service were able to pay, was a matter which had been fixed by the Health Department and the association had no option but. to comply with the direction. He had pleasure in referring to the excellent services rendered by Sister Smith, who was undoubtedly doing her work thoroughly and. efficiently. District Nurse Day had proved a wonderful succcsb and the j speaker was pleased to record the support accorded by helpers. Paddy’s market was also extremely well supported and the thanks of the committee were due to citizens for their generous support. Those who had placed their motorcars at the disposal of the organisation deserved the special thanks of the association. The appeal for clothing, which was a constant need, had been most generous and generally Canon Petrie was grateful for the cordial help accorded tho movement.

Speaking to the election of the committee, the Mayor, Mr. C. E. Taylor, said he. had every pleasure in supporting the re-election of those ladies and gentlemen who were doing valuable volunteer work on behalf of the town. The committee had rendered a service to the town, in connection with the relief, of unemployment that had greatly relieved the unemployment committee, and the Mayor willingly acknowledged this great work. The speaker went on to pay a. warm tribute to Sister. Smith whose services to the town were such as to call for jmblio acknowledgment. He would also refer to those who had charge of the distribution of wood for firing and i.t was pleasing to know that there were gentlemen in the town, prepared to give of their time in this behalf. Mr. Taylor congratuated Canon Petrie on his particularly fine work as chairman of an organisation which was playing an important part in the relief of distress in the town. In this work the Canon was ably supported by the secretary, Mrs. Stalker, who had been connected with the organisation since its inception, and had done very noble work indeed.

In regard to the association -'s appeal to the McCarthy Trust, Canon Petrie stated that no answer had been received but he understood that there was to be a meeting of the trustees of the Trust on Monday nest when, no doubt, the association’s application would receive consideration. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the work of Sister Smith. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, the Mayor, M. C. E. Taylor; chairman, Rev.
