Garrison Band

APPOINTMENT OF CARNIVAL COMMITTEES. Col. J. H. Whyte presided over a large and enthusiastic meeting supporters of the Palmerston North Garrison Band last evening in the Band hall. Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Mesdames Evans, Wollcrman and Messrs. Loudon, Henry and Creighton. Col. Whyte explained that the meeting was called to consider the advisability of holding a carnival to raise funds to purchase new instruments in order that the band might enter the 1934 contest to be held in Palmerston North. . It was resolved on the motion of iyir. .Shacklcton, seconded by Mr. Fitzsimmons, that a carnival be held on September 27, 28, 29 and 30. Mrs. Trask moved, seconded by Mr. Haybittle, that the carnival be held in the Empire hall.—Carried. Sub-committees were then set up ay follows:—Entertainment committee: Messrs. W. C. Loudon (chairman), W. R, Kells, C'. Pike, Mesdames Trask, Heaphy and Evans with power to add. Stalls committee: Mesdames Trask (chairman), Whyte, Evans, Heaphy, Haybittle, Booker, Hayward, Wollerman, Barlow and Miss Manderson, with power to add. Games committee: Mr. Pike (chairman), citizens’ committed and band members. Advertising committee: Messrs. Oakley (chairman), Cope, Hayward and Short. Mrs. Trask reported that the ladies were holding a street stall in Broadway to-day and that any person wishing to make donations could leave same at Collinson and Cunninghame’s before 9 a.m. and after then a,t tho stall itself. Mr. Kells reported that he was arranging for a Maori concert party to give items during the evenings at the carnivals.

It was resolved that the carnival open on Wednesday, Setpember 27, at 2 p.m., and bo open in the afternoons from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and in the evenings from 7 p.m .to 10.30 p.m. It was reported that many handsome donations were made to the hand and it was decided to hold a further meeting next Wednesday in the Band hall, when matters in connection with, the taijuvffl could be gone ifltfi
