Feilding District Nurse Association
ANNUAL REPORT This afternoon in the Borough Council chambers the annual meeting of the Feilding District Nurse Association will be held. The following is the annual report of the chairman of the committee, the Rev. Canon Petrie: —
“It gives me great pleasure to present our 10th annual report. The number of visits paid during the year by Sister Smith s-how a falling off from that of last year, this being explained by the fact, that at the beginning of the year’s work it was found necessary to set up sub-committees, upon whom devolved the work of looking after the distressed members of the community. Sister Smith, although paying a numbor of welfare visits, very largely restricts her work to cases of sickness, which after all is the work which makes district nurses necessary. The ! sub-committees referred to above have j carried out their duties in a most effi- ! ciont manner and have been, able to relieve a great deal of existing distress. “A Paddy’s market to raise funds to help carry on the above works was a great success, and enabled us to provide food for necessitous cases. The clothes drive also was of great help to us with our work, and we wish to thank all those who helped toward tne success of these two efforts. The annual district nurse day was very successful, and considering the times, the amount of money collected was considered very satisfactory. Again we wish to thank those who helped on this day, collectors and car owners. "■Wo aro extremely grateful to the Thomas George McCarthy Trust, Feilding Borough Council, Manawatu Rugby Union, the District Women’s Institutes, Agricultural High School, and the •nany private subscribers to this asso-
■ation whose help enables us to carry on the work; to Mr A. J. Geary for auditing our books free of charge we are deeply grateful; to the Borough Council for the use of meeting room, and to the Press for the generous way in which they played their columns at our disposal and brought our claims before the public, our thanks and acknowledgments are due. "During the past year Sister Smith has paid 2806 sick visits and has done her work to the complete satisfaction of the committee. Numerous letters of appreciation have been received from grateful patients. Help has been given by the food committee to 60 families per week; clothing given to 150 families; Christmas and New Year cheer was distributed to 120 families. The balance-sheet discloses a satisfactory state of affairs.’’
