English Channel Swum by Woman
LEGLESS AMERICAN STARTS PROM ENGLAND. United Press Association —By Electric. Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Aug. 29. Miss Sonnie Lowrie swam the Channel from Grisnez to South Foreland, in 15$ hours. She is the first Channel aspir nt to succeed in 1933. E. H. Temmo and Charles Zimmy, the legless American, left the English coast to-day, under excellent conditions.
Temme Gives Up
LONDON, Aug. 29,
Temme abandoned his swim, after 11 hours 40 minutes, threo miles from the French coast. He injured his foot by striking the tug.
Zimmy and Miss Mercedes Gleitze Abandon Attempts
Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 3d.
Zimmv abandoned his attempt to swim tho Channel after 13 hours, when he was nine miles from South Foreland. Dense fog developed over the Channel. Miss Mercedes Gleitze, who also set out to swim the Channel, abandoned her attempt after 15 hours, owing to an adverse wind and tide, when she was sevon miles from tho French coast.
