Mr. G. V. Were, of the Agricultural Department, returned to New Zealand yesterday after eight months spent in England inspecting dairy produco. The death is reported by cable from Brisbane of Dr. Gerald Sharp, Anglican Archbishop, Brisbane. He was nctingPrimato of Australia after the death of Archbishop Wright some time ago. The condition of Francis Eric May, who was seriously injured in a collision on Tuesday morning at Fitzhorbcrt, was last evening reported by the hospital authorities to be the same as ai admission.

Mr. M. A. Eliott, of Palmerston North, leaves to-day by the Wanganella from Wellington for Australia, where ho will spend four or live weeks on business. During his visit to tho Commonwealth he will bo accompanied by Mrs. Eliott.

Mr. W. G. Kalaughcr, the New Zealand Khodes Scholar of 1927, returned to Now Zealand by tho Eangitata yesterday. He is now a master at Marlborough College and intends to spend a month or so in Now Zealand with his wife, who accompanies him, before returning to England. Guests at the Hotel Imperial include Mrs and Miss Inglis (Nelson), Mr W. Godley (Wellington), Mr W. Woolven (Hamilton), Mr J. J. Steven (Wellington), Mr J. F. Paul (Wellington), Mr K. Port (Wellington), Mr H. A. Snoliing (Wellington), Mr A. Coulter (Wellington).

The Otago-Southland Presbyterian Synod yesterday concurred in the appointment of Mr. J. M. Finlay, M.A., of Pretoria, to the chair of mental anu moral philosophy at Otago University. Mr. Findlay, who is aged 30, is a native of Pretoria, a gradaute of Oxford and a Ehodes Scholar.

On March 17 next his Grace Archbishop Redwood, S.M., Catholic Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, will have completed 60 years as a bishop. Incidentally, he is the oldest bishop in tho Catholic Hierarchy in the world. Tho event will be suitably commemorated by the Catholics of the Dominion, and it is expected that thero will bo . a very largo gathering of tho Hierarchy, clergy and laity from all over the country and overseas.
