Ku Klux Klan Gang of Youths

An exciting affair is reported to have occurred at Rossmore Terrace, Cashmere, on Saturday night, when three masked youths waylaid a fourth youth and dragged him to a shed where they roughly handled ini. Tho parties aro believed to havo been friends, but quarrelled. Subsequently two arrests were made. A melodramatic touch was lont to the incident by the fact that tho assailants wore hoods that masked their heads and faces and covered their shoulders, something after the style of tho habiliments worn by tho Ku Klux Klan. Broad sashes tied Tound their waists completed tho costume.
Four Youths Appear in Court Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 28. As a sequel to the Cashmere alleged assault caso, four youths faced the Magistrate, Mr, E. D. Mosley, this morning. Phillip Percival Sharp, aged aged 17, was charged with the theft of 6/-, the property of Thomas Allan CraWshaw; William Joseph Hailing, aged 18, and Stanley Thomas Allan Crawsh&w, aged 17, were jointly charged with assaulting Phillip Percival Sharp, and Norman Erederick Eletcher aged 18, was charged with breaking and entering St. Mary’s Church, Morivale, on August 25 and committing theft. All were remanded till September 5.
The police said all were members of a clique about which there was a suggestion of the Kelly gapg or Su Klus
Klan. Sharp was assaulted for breaking the gang’s order. There were other charges pending of thoft, breaking and entering and car conversion and Sharp was also involved in them. After Sharp was bound and gagged his assailants stuck a pin into him to sec if he was jiM at. safe. fffea feex ‘ " r
