A message from St. Piero and Miquelon states that rioting by the populace at St. Pierre in protest against tho imjjosition of taxes by tho Governor of the French Colony, resulted in the rushing of two warships to the port, and the occupation of the city by armed sailors.

St. Pierre and Miquelon, small islands to the south of Newfoundland, aro French possessions.

Governor Disregarded Wishes ; Of People’s Representatives

Received Monday, 7.30 p.m. VANCOUVER, Aug. 27. A number of citizens have been arrested and sailors aro patrolling tho streets. The Governor’s action was taken in disregard of a protesting vote by elected members of the Government Council.
