Runaway Tram Hits Another
Vehicle Bolts Downhill When iotorman Collapses TEN PASSENGERS INJURED United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 9.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 22. ' When a motorman collapsed at the controls to-day his tram bolted downhill at Redfern and finally with the rear of another tram. Ten passengers were hurt, chiefly abrasions, lacerations and shock. Eye-witnesses say it was miraculous that several were not killed. So severe was the impact that both trams were badly damaged. Some passengers, realising that an accident was inevitable, leapt from the runaway tram, risking their lives amongst dense, fast-moving motor traffic. There were scenes of great confusion where the collision occurred, terrified women suffering from shock and lacerations. The collision resulted in a complete blockage of traffic in Cleveland street, which is a busy highway on the fringe of the city.
