Mrs. Sybil Hansen, of Levin, is still reported by the hospital authorities to bo in a serious condition. No improvement has been shown.
Humphrey Owen Stevens was fined £25 at Auckland yesterday for smuggling a wireless set, valued at £2O, from a Vancouver steamer at Auckland. The duty payable was £9 8s Bd. He pleaded guilty, but counsel said the plea would have been not guilty were it not that the Customs Act said the absenco of intent to defraud was no defence. The Magistrate imposed the minimum fine and ordered the forfeiture of the set.
