MEETING OE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Tho monthly meeting of tho hoard of directors of the 1 Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. was held in tho hostel on Friday. There wore ■ present: - Mesdamcs Sinclair (chair), Barnett, Eutherfurd, Mouldey, Griggs, Pointon, Stevens, Bicrre, Misses Cameron, Kelsey, Scotter and tho general secretary, Miss Ashton. Apologies were received from Mesdamcs Phillips, Oliver, Grcig and Miss Forrest. Tho ordinary routino business of the board meeting was carried through, and the recommendations made by the committee adopted. Interesting correspondence from bliss Nossio Moncrief, of Peiping Y.M.C.A., China, and from Miss Ethel Law, of the National Y.W.C.A. of Canada, was read, the former giving most enlightening details of the Chinese-Japanese situation and tho latter giving a very vivid impression of the writer’s contact with Miss Van Asch Van Wyck.
■ - The secretary reported that arrangements had been mado with the Department of Health to meet and care for in between trains children going to the health camp at Otaki, and that ono had already been met this month. A report was given on the meeting of representative business and professional women, convened to discuss the possibility of an international dinner for Miss Van Asch Van Wyck. The report of the unemployment friendly service bureau showed that during the month there had been more applications for domestic help than there had been girls registering; 16 inquired for help and S registered, and of those seven had been found employment. An interesting Teport on the work among the Girl Citizens and the Senior Club was given, board members beingasked to remember the community gathering to be held on July 27. The Girl Citizens were also preparing items to give at the public meeting for Miss Van Ascii Van Wyck. The major part of tho business of the afternoon consisted in making plans for the annual meeting of the association, to be held on August 1.1 and at which bliss Charlotte Niven, the world’s Y.W.C.A. general secretary, will be the speaker, and in preparing tho visit of the world's Y.W.C.A. president, bliss Van Asch Van Wyck on August 2. Mrs Sinclair and Miss Kelsey were appointed to represent the association on tho combined committco representative of the four international societies of the town —tho Y.M.C.A., Y.W.C.A., Rotary and the League of Nations Union—and which would plan the public meeting for bliss Van Asch Van Wyck. During a break in the business of the meeting afternoon tea was served by the matron, bliss Hilgcndorf.
Lemon juice may bo preserved by straining it into small dry bottles. Fill nearly to the top; add ii spoonful of olive oil, cork well and store in a cool dry place. When the lemon. juice is needed the oil can be Absorbed with a little cotton wool. Another method i 3 to add sugar to tho strained juice ir. proportion of lib sugar to a dozen medium-sized lemons. Heat the juice till the sugar melts, then store in widemouthed bottles. When using lemons thoroughly heat the fruit either in the overt or in boiling water before squeezing. Double the quantity of juice will be obtained.
