From Our Own Correspondent. N.Cr. Bro M. Jacobs presided at the meeting of the Apiti Oddfellows’ Lodge on Saturday evening last. A new monibor was proposed for initiation, “lhc challenge issued to Wanganui Lodge for the Salek Cup has been accepted. Final arrangements were made for the annual ball, which is to bo hold on July 6. Mr and Mrs A. McMurtrie, of Table Flat, are visiting Levin. Mrs Youngson, of Feilding, is to give a demonstration on tho making of a variety of articles from sugar bags, at the next W.I. meeting. Tho competition is for a knitted beret, plain and fancy. Mesdames Harland and J. Jensen will be the hostesses. The Literary and Debating Club met at tho parsonage on Tuesday evening, when a short debate on the . subject “That a lie is sometimes justifiable/ proved most interesting. Mr A. 0. Jones was in the chair, and the affirmativc speakers were Messrs A. F. Stewart, H. M. Harrison and_C. Watkins. The speakers on the negative side, wnu won the debate on tho vote of the meeting, were Messrs G. H. Gibbons, J. Stevens and E. Mikkelson. It was decided to have an open evening on July 4. This will take the form of a social evening, and the debate will be "That woman’s occupation should be confined to the home." The meeting concluded with supper. Apiti B football team will meet Wartuna hero on Saturday next; team as usual. Apiti A, a bye.
