Y.M.C.A. Red Triangle Day

To-morrow the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. will make its annual Red Triangle Day appeal for funds to carryon its work among the young men and boys of this city, Many well-known voung ladies and business men who are well wishers of the Y.M.C.A., will assist the association by the sale of badges to tempt the public to subscribe a substantial amount in small sums. Measured by the most exacting standards, the claims of the YM.C.A. should be recognised by citizens as worthy of generous support. In the membership are 399 young people under the age of 22 years, 202 of whom arc boys under the age of 18 years, thus it will be seen that the association makes a definite impact on the youth and boy life of the community. There arc also many young men and. boys who cither through _ unemployment or poor home conditions, attend regularly but pay no fees for membership. Citizens who pause to think realise that the Y.M.C.A. through its organised activities occupies tho leisure hours of hundreds of young men and boys, and is the outlet for that energy that would in all probability find expression in less worthy channels The fact that the association apart, from its senior work, community obligations, and its varied activities, gives for nine months in the year the best service it can offer to 200 boys, at a cost which works out at under four pence per class session of two hours to each member, goes to show that the association makes every effort to bring its membership fees within the reach of almost every boy. The association will not turn away any boy through inability to pay membership fees. Of the population of over 20.000 people in Palmerston North there arc many who are not reached by the ordinary means of assisting in tho maintenance of tho association’s finance, through membership, or annual donation, and it is certain that hundreds of these will be glad of tho opportunity presented tomorrow to assist the association so that its work for the youth of this city will not be hampered by lack of funds. In view of the influence which the Y.M.C.A. exerts, and the place it occupies in tho life of the city, it is felt that the appeal for funds tomorrow will meet with a general response from the citizens of Palmerston North.
