Disposal of Surplus Butter

IF QUOTA ARRANGED

NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night.

A significant statement that in the event, of a butter quota the surplus could be disposed of was made by the Right Hon. J. G. Coates at Hawera last night. Mr. Coates said ho was not prepared, to indicate how this could be done, but ho was much happier than lie was a few months ago.

The problem of a few months ago, said Mr. Coates, was what to do with, the surplus if a quota wero adopted. “I cannot put all my cards on the table,” he added.

The problem could be solved to-day; if a surplus occurred it could be arranged for. “It may become necessary,” ho said, ’’to fall into lino with, a general policy of restricting imports to the British market. If it does I will lie much happier than I thought I would have been a few months ago.”
