Shipping Competition

(To tho Editor.) Sir, —Generally speaking, women me not credited with tho ability to comprehend such deep and intricate “big business" problems as the present controversy over tho Blue Star Line, so a feel neither shame nor hesitation in professing my own ignorance over this particular matter. It, however, has succeeded whore other financial and economical problems have failed—i.e., in arousing my curiosity and interest. I only glanced casually at the first newspaper insertions on the subject, but this last letter of tho Blue Star Line published in answer to tho New Zealand Overseas Ship Owners' letter has made me wonder exactly what it is all about. I have always thought that healthy competition was a great stimulus to trade. I have also always thought that successful, well-meaning business people have laced competition honestly, not by slandering with, tho hope of crippling the newcomer to the field. Doesn’t “good sportsmanship" apply in the business world? The New Zealand Overseas Ship Owners, judging by their open letter, do not seem to think so. They slander freely and utter veiled commentaries calculated to raise questions in the public mind —questions which, they themselves evidently cannot answer. As “merely a woman" who plays tho part of spectator only, I’m all lor giving tho Blue Star Lino a lair chance. —I am. etc., ONLOOKER.
