Nine False Fire Alarms in Four Days
£5 FINE FOR YOUTH Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A youth who brought out tho tiro brigade on nine bogus calls within four days appeared in Court this morning. Accused was Francis Waldram ' Malaquin, aged 17, and ho was fined £5, in default one month in prison. The police said tnat the brigade turned out on each occasion at a co-r. of £5 a -time, and, in addition, polico and firemen were out all night watching the alarm boxes. Two firemen saw Malaquin hovering about an alarm box, and when questioned he said he was waiting to get papers from another newsrunner. Later, a constable interviewed Malaquin, who admitted the offences.
Tho Magistrate, Mr E. D. Mosley, said that the offences were worse thau any larrlkinism.
