PERSONALITIES
The flag was flown half-mast from the Courthouse yesterday in honour ol the late Mr. 'f. 33. McNeil, »S.M., who died in Wellington on Wednesday. Guests at the Hotel Imperial include Mr. H. Beason, Wellington; Mr. K. H. Court, Auckland; Mr. E. W. Holness, Wellington; and Mr. Hooper, Wellington. Mr. Edwin E. Grcufleld, representing the Mctro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation is in Palmerston North in connection with the presentation of “Grand Hotel" at the Regent theatre next week.
The death occurred in Nelson last week of Mr. Kichard Kenning, at the age of 7-1 years. Deceased, who for a Jong period was closely associated with the dcvclopmcntof the cathedral city, was the father of Mr. Charlie Kenning and Mrs. Jennings, of Palmerston North.
Mr Sterling, chairman of the Government Railways Board, announced that at its meeting yesterday the board decided to appoint Mr G. T. Bertinshaw Chief Engineer of Bailways, vice Mr E. Casey, who was recently appointed Assistant-General Manager.
