From Our Own Correspondent Borough Council.
The fortnightly" meeting of the Shannon Borough Council was held on Tuesday", there being present the Mayor, (Mr E. Butt), Councillors J. Curran snr., J. Curran jur. , Roach, Mason, Clayton, Thwaitcs and Hyde. An apology was received from Cr Lind. Correspondence was received as under: —
From Messrs S. L. Graham, B. G. Taylor, J. H. King and E. Hook asking that metal be placed on the road leading to the Council dump. It was decided that this be done.
From the secretary, Local Government Loans Board, advising that a considered opinion regarding conversion of loans would be forwarded later.
The Borough Health Inspector’s report for the months of April and May was received. One case of diphtheria was reported in the Shannon borough during May. A financial statement of the Swimming Bath Committee signed by Messrs C. if. Cronqucst and J. 1\ Bo vis as honorary auditors, was presented. This showed a credit balance of £l7 4 G in the Savings Bank. The Town Clerk reported that he had received a letter from Capo Town from Mr 11. Hook, an ex-Councillor who sent greetings to the Mayor and Borough Councillors.
Mr J. Curran jnr. reported that pigs were likely to cause damage to the cemetery. It was resolved to write to the owner asking him to keep the pigs awav. Or Roach enquired if kerbing m Stout street by the Post Office could bo repaired. It was left to the Town Clerk to attend to. It; was reported that dead trees at the Cemetery and Recreation Grounds had been replaced with new ones. Cr Mason moved that the foreman be asked to put in a report fortnightly on all work done in the Borough. Agreed to. Ou Tuesday evening a very pleasant and somewhat uniquo dance was held at Managore. The music was supplied radio broadcasting station and tho reRadio Broadcasting Station and the reception was particularly good. Dances were mostly of the old-time variety, a good crowd of local peoplo and visitors making the evening a pronounced success. Mr A. It. Blackwood acted as M.C. A dainty supper supplied by the ladies assisted materially in the success of tho function. Dance in Shannon. A radio dance similar to that at Mangaore was held by the Vcn. Bede’s Committee, and this also was a very successful event.
A thief -walked into a coal merchant’s stable at Harringay, North London, recently and led away by the main road the most valuable of three horses, passers-by thinking he was merely taking it out for exercise.
