Golden Harvest’s Salvage Bill
HARBOUR EOARD CLAIMS £6OOO WORS HELD UP WHILE OWNERS THINK IT OVER Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. This morning a writ issuod on behalf of tho Wellington Harbour Board claiming £6OOO for salvago services rendered was affixed to the mainmast of tlic Golden Harvest. Up to the present no contract has been let for tho work of repairing the steamer, tenders for wtuen closed last Thursday. These wero submitted by cable to the Matson Navigation Company, owners of tho ship, at Sau Francisco, but so far it is understood no decision has been received. Pending a decision as to the future of tho ship it has been arranged to patch the damaged parts of the hull sufficiently to make tho vessel watertight so that sho can be taken off the dock. A start was made with this work this morning by W. Cablo and Company, who will put temporary plates over tho holes in tho ship’s hull. It is expected this work will bo completed in time to permit the ship being taken off tho dock next Monday. Tho Golden Harvest lias now been on tho floating dock .for a week and not reckoning the charges for the first throe or four days it is costing about £47 a day for the hire of the dock alone.
