Mr Mansford Unopposed for Mayoralty

FIFTEEN CANDIDATES FOR CITY COUNCIL

Nominations for election to city and district local bodies closed with the town„clerk (Mr. J. R. Hardic) at noon yesterday. Mr. A. E. Mansford, the sitting Mayor, is returned unopposed. There will bo no election required either for the Foxton Harbour Board, the Wellington Harbour Board or the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board, the present Palmerston North representatives being returned unopposed in each instance.

For the Palmerston North City Council there are 15 candidates for nine seats. Tkreo former members, Messrs W. L. Fitzherbort, G. C. Keeblo and J. McLeod, arc not standing for re-elec-tion to the council. There are therefore six new aspirants included in the nomiuecs.

For the four vacancies on the Hospital Board there are six nominees, including the four present members. Following are the detailed nominations for the various bodies, sitting members being donated by an asterisk:

Nominations for the Election at Foxton MAYOR RETURNED UNOPPOSED From Our Own Correspondent. Nominations for the forthcoming elections at Foxton closed at noon yesterday. For the Mayoralty, the present Mayor, Mr. M. E. Perreau, was the only nominee and will therefore be reelected unopposed. Insofar as the council is concerned, the following nominations have been received: Messrs J. L. Christie, John Ross, A. R. Crowe, F. Robinson, V. li. Barron, R. J. Thompson, R. Rangiheuea, S. J. Harvey and W T . Nye. As this is the requisite number there will be no election in this regard. The only newcomer to the council will be Mr. Nye who w-ill fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. S. E. Cowley. For the two vacancies on the Foxton Harbour Board; Messrs H. Osborne, John Ross and M. E. Perreau have been nominated. - The two sitting members are Messrs Ross and Perreau. For the Horowhenua Electric Power Board, Mr. R.
