DOGS FACE MOVIE CAMERA. Palmerston North. tm3 been photographed from all angles both by the amateur and professional photographer and by movio-mcii but, for the iirst tirno iu its history, a sound Him was “shot” iu the city yesterday. Aud tho honour of being the subjects fell to tho lot of two dogs, “.Jack” and “Jill,” tho clever pets of Mr. E. E. Woodcock.
Every dog has his day and Jack and Jill' certainly had theirs just before mid-day yesterday when they performed before the Fox Movietone crew iu a “short” that was not without its touch of humour.
The fame of the canine pets having become widely known, tho Fox car, with its modern equipment visited Falmerston North to “shoot” a scene of them yesterday and Jill, a purebrod retriever, and Jack, a spaniel-retriever, played their part iu a scene which is expected to muko its appearaneo at one of the local theatres in about throe weeks’ time. The iirst scene was laid with a motor milk-van stationary on tho roadsido.. Jacked ambled across to collect a billy of milk for his colleague, Jill, who anxiously awaited its arrival on the opposite side of the road. .Several “rehearsals” were found necessary as Jack had a thirst to quench before Jill could bo considered but—to mako a long story “short”—it was eventually carried out in detail, and even tho barks were recorded perfectly. Then the tliree-year-old dogs played a second scene. Doth drove up in a car to a butcher’s shop, Jack acting as driver and, upon receiving a penny ho entered the shop, placed the coin on the counter, purchased some meat and left to give it to his companion. The actions revealed tho cleverness of the dogs and tho excellent training they had received. Undoubtedly, “Palmerston North’s wonder dogs” will create a great amount of interest for movie fans.
