R.S.A. SOCIAL EVENING. From Our Own Correspondent. Some thirty ex-servicemen from Bulla, Ohakea, Parewanui and Sanson assembled in the Clifton Hall, Bulls, on Wednesday evening to attend the initial social evening held under the auspices of the newly-formed Bulls and District branch ot' the Returned Soldiers’ Association. In addition, Messrs G. B. Gregory, C. C. McDonald and J.B.S. Budding of the Marten branch were also present. •Mr A. W. Churchill, president of the branch, extended a very hearty welcome to all “diggers'” present, making special reference to the Marton visitors and Colonel Bowles who had undertaken the office of patron of the branch. Mr Churchill touched briefly on the early days of the Association, ■when, he said, very few of the “diggers” really understood the objects of the body, and many of whom, after the first flush of enthusiasm had passed drifted away from it altogether. However, thanks to the work of a few enthusiasts the R.S.A. was regaining its prestige and increasing its membership rapidly. Men did not link up with the Association-merely for what they would get put of-it, he explained, but chiefly to band together and help others who were down on. their luck. In order to assist unemployed “diggers” to join the Association the speaker said it had been, arranged, to grant them a 50 pcT cent, concession, anil whenever possiblo the committee would obtain work for Ihose unable to find this amount. Thus it was hoped that every returned man in the district would be enrolled. Mr Cf. B. Gregory, chairman of tho Marton R.S.A., mentioned that the formation of the Bulls branch was tho last link in the district, committee which took in the country between Sanson and Mangaonoho, and. lie was pleased to announce that the Marton R.S.A. had voted £5 to the Bulls branch. Bulls would bo rint.it.lp.fl S-fi-nri" delcaate on

tho District Committee, and if tho membership reached over 50, another could be appointed. Messrs McDonald and Dudding also made short addresses, urging members to take a very active interest in the affairs of the Association. Colonel Powles announced that as usual the Flock House boys would parade on Anzae Day, and he enjoined all “diggers” to turn out, wearing their decorations. It- was later resolved to parade in a body on Anzae Day. The suggested alteration in the venue of the memorial service will not be put into effect this year. A discussion took place on the question of further social evenings, and it was agreed to hold the next function on May 10. During the course of the evening several items were interspersed between the speeches, and these and innumerable reminiscences helped to pass a most enjoyable evening, of which not the least important was tho excellent supper provided. Those who contributed items were Rev. Lane, and Messrs. Churchill, H. H. C. Holland, 0. H. Grut and J M. Crouchcr. Mr 0. H. Edwards accompanied tho vocalists in his illimitable style. General News.
