Cricket Tho newly-formed Hukanui Cricket Club played its first match against a team, representing Hukanui and Kakariki. Owing to the length of the grass it was a case of “lift everything”; carpet drives were of no effoct. A drivo that would ordinarily have reached tho boundary stopped immediately it left the pitch. The roughness of the ground, however, was in. keeping with the standard of play, a's evidenced by tho scores, but since all were of equal standard the match plovcd very enjoyable. It is expected to have matches against neighbouring districts before the end of tho season. Hukanui proved victorious by 46 runs to SO. Following are tho detailed scores:—
