Preparations for Foxton Horse Sports

A meeting of tho Foxton Sports Club was held on Wednesday evening. Present were Messrs W. E. Barber (in the chair), S. J. Harvey, F. Woods, G. Walls, W. Bowden, 11. Hamer, J. Shorthouse, J. Barber, L. Carter, S. Barber, W. Ross, D. Christie, M. E. Ferreau, W. M. Thomas and the secretary (Mr. J. L. Christie). Apologies were received from Messrs J). R. Barron, G. F. Smith, J. M. Thomson, G Alexander, G. Woods and W. T. Jewell.

In connection with the question of broadcasting results and music at the nieeting to bo held on Wednesday, 29th inst., it was decided to accept the otter made by Mr. J. V. Ivylc, of Palmerston North, for this service. Among correspondence received was a letter from Mr. J. Waller stating that he would donate a trophy for tho open hunters’ event. The secretary was instructed to write and thank Mr. Waller for his kind assistance. The Wanganui district Committee wrote forwarding an approved programme for the meeting. The Minister of Internal Affairs wroie granting a license for the holding of a non-totalisator meeting. Mr. S. Brown, Palmerston North, wroto regarding the conveyance of horses from Palmerston North for exhibition trotting races. After discussion it was decided to accept Mr. Brown’s offer providing satisfactory arrangements could be made to have the horses competing. Tho matter of newspaper advertising in connection with tho meeting was finalised. It was also decided to show slides on the screen at the local pictures and at Shannon and to ascertain the cost of screening at the Do Luxe theatre, Levin, and at the Regent theatre, Palmerston North. As an added attraction it was decided to include in the programme a chain stepping ovent. It was decided that the entrance fee be Is and the first prize £l. Messrs W. E. Barber, F. Woods, J. Shorthouse and W. JM. Thomas were appointed to take charge of this event. It was further decided to write the Palmerston North Free Ambulance asking them to attend the meeting. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs. Bryant and family expressing regret at tho sad accident which recently befel Mr. Bryant and to express the hope that he would soon be restored to his usual health. Messrs B. G. Gower and J. McGregor were elected new members.
